Application
The LT1630 Fiber Optic T1/E1 Modem is typically
used to link Channel Banks, PBXs, and M13 multiplexers
to DSX-1 Cross Connects in Video Conferencing
and Distance Learning applications. It is also
used to link Customer Premises Equipment to CSU/DSUs
and with metallic medium T1/E1 multiplexers to
transmit over fiber optic cable.

Description
Available in either rackmount (LT1620R) or standalone
versions (LT1620S), the LT1620R/S T1/E1 Fiber
Optic Modem provides a reliable point-to-point
link between two T1/E1 devices. Distances to more
than 80km are possible with special optics at
1550nm. It is available in both multimode and
single mode versions. A smaller, compact version
is also available as LT1620.
The LT1620R/S offers significant user benefits
and important features. User benefits include
no jitter, extremely low current consumption (less
than 300mA) and high reliability. Important features
include Local and Remote Loopback, Power/Optical
redundancy (optional), multiple power options
and a replaceable Line Interface Module.
Power redundancy is standard; optical redundancy
is optional. The PC Card version is typically
used with the LTRM196 or LTRM192 Rack Mount Card
Cages, which can hold up to 2 or 10 cards, respectively.
An extreme temperature version (-20°C to 70°C),
Model LT1620T, is also available.
Diagnostics include Local & Remote Loopback
and 21 LED indicators to help installation, troubleshooting,
and operation procedures. LED functions include
Power, Alarm, T1/E1 Signal Loss, BPV violations
and Sync Active. Eight DIP switches, accessible
from the panel, provide control settings for line
code, line length, local loopback or remote loopback.
An intelligent line code setting switch is provided
to eliminate confusion, such as a line code/line
length mismatched setting.
Transparent to the framing format, the LT1620R/S
supports AMI, B8ZS and HDB3 line codes and DSX-1
(T1) cross connect distances from 0 to 655 feet.
It includes an internal elastic buffer to remove
jitter from transmit data. It is compatible with
all popular types and sizes of optic cable. Fiber
optic connectors are ST or FC. Electrical connectors
are detachable Terminal Blocks. Input power is
12VDC (standard), 24VDC, -48VDC or 115/230VAC
with a built-in or external power supply. A dry
contact relay alarm is also provided.
NOTE: The LT1630 is 100% compatible with its
predecessor Model LT1620.
